1. Who is responsible
The controller for this website is the provider named in the Impressum. You can reach us with the contact details given there.
2. What we collect and why
Hosting. The site is hosted by Vercel Inc. When you open a page, the server processes your IP address, browser type and the requested URL in short-lived server logs, to deliver the site and keep it secure (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Vercel also provides cookieless Web Analytics that count page views without identifying you personally.
Waitlist and newsletter. If you sign up, we process the email address you enter so we can contact you about the Dawnwell launch or the Journal. It is saved in a private file in Vercel Blob storage (Vercel Inc.) and sent to us by email via Google Mail (SMTP), and we send you one confirmation email through Resend (Plus Five Five, Inc.), an email delivery service that receives your email address and the content of that message for this purpose. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR); you can withdraw it at any time. To limit abuse, your IP address is held briefly in server memory to count sign-up attempts and is not stored afterwards.
Cookieless statistics. We use Umami Cloud (Umami Software, Inc.) to count page views and actions on the site, such as clicks on buttons and links, how far a page is scrolled and whether a sign-up went through. Umami sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device; it does not store your IP address or build a profile of you, and we only see anonymous, aggregated numbers. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Analytics (only with your consent). If you click Accept on the banner, we use Google Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Ltd.) to measure page views, how far you scroll, which sections you reach and which buttons and links you click, so we can improve the site. IP addresses are anonymised. Google sets cookies (such as
Third-party resources. To display the site we load scripts from the unpkg.com CDN (Cloudflare), which receives your IP address when you visit (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Journal photos and fonts are served from our own domain.

3. Where it is stored and for how long
Server logs are kept by Vercel for a short period. Sign-ups (the email files in Vercel Blob and the emails in our mailbox) are kept until you ask us to delete them or the purpose ends. Umami keeps its anonymous statistics for up to six months. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our Google Analytics property (up to 14 months). Your consent choice is saved only in your browser (local storage). Providers such as Google, Vercel, Resend and Umami may process data in the USA; they rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses.
4. Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correction, deletion, restriction, data portability and objection, and to withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future. You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the Bavarian State Office for Data Protection Supervision (BayLDA) or the authority where you live. To exercise your rights, contact us using the details in the Impressum.
5. Contact
See the Impressum for our contact details.
6. Analytics choice
You can change your analytics choice at any time: open the cookie settings. Declining or withdrawing stops measurement and removes the Google Analytics cookies from this browser.
